Jimmy Gamonet, internationally acclaimed, Gold Medal award winning, modern ballet choreographer has formed his own Miami dance company, which will open its third successful season this Fall.
Gamonet has received international recognition for ballet choreography "whose excellence extends the aesthetic boundaries" of modern dance.
Program I presents an exciting program with a world premiere by Jerry Opdenaker, and encore performance of Gamonet favorites, ""Pan Nuit Suite" and "Transtangos."
"Pan Nuit Suite" is a series of festive dances set to music from Gounod's opera, "Faust." This neoclassical ballet is airy and feminine, yet beneath pretty displays of Pan and Nymphs convorting, Gamonet's choreography demands steely strength and perfection of form by its dancers. Andres Felipe Figueroa effortlessly and beautifully partnered a divine Hiroko Sakakibara in the Adagio of this Suite.
"Transtangos," set to the music of Piazzola, is a Latin-inspired favorite that creates excitement by wedding contemporary Ballet and sexy Tango. This modern set showcased the beautifully expressive dancing of Prima ballerina Illiana Lopez and the entire Ballet Gamonet company.
"Pinch me, I must be dreaming we're in New York," I murmured to Tony as the audience's attention was riveted by Opdenaker's complicated and fluid choreography of dancers twirling and coming together in unexpected ways across the stage. "Bailame" is fascinating and probably a work of genius, that is worthwhile seeing a second time, if only to understand what Opdenaker described as "the story of each dancer as it is revealed."
Delighted viewers gave Jimmy Gamonet, Opdenaker and Ballet Gamonet a standing ovation.
Liz & Tony guarantee you will be astonished and delighted with Ballet Gamonet dance performances this 2007-2008 Season.

Bug Chasers at the Carnival Center, Studio Black Box Theater, 1300 Biscayne Blvd, Miami
Box Office: 305-949-6722
Performances October 25-27, Thurs-Sat, 8pm
Internationally acclaimed dance-theatre choreographer Octavio Campos presents his world premiere of "Bugchasers," to be performed at the Carnival Center Studio Black Box Theater.
Last Winter, Campos choreagraphed the Pre-Game SuperBowl show, in collaboration with Romero Britto (costumes) and Cirque du Soleil performers (www.camposition.org).
In contrast to the beautiful "tropical fantasy" of the pre-game show Campos relates, "Bugchasers is a dance-theater meditation on sex, lies, and death-wish eroticism."
Bugchasers' adult theme is young men who seek to form an erotic bond and destroy themselves through becomingHIV positive. Campos warns, "this work is not recommended for a first date."
Liz & Tony have long appreciated Octavio Campos is a resident genius, and while Bug Chasers is "strong stuff," it promises to be thought-provoking and may prick the conscience of Miami's gay and straight communities.
Bugchasers is highly recommended for these reasons.
